With the club on a high after the recent excellent run of results, a feat acknowledged by the news this week that Paul Hartley and Mitch Megginson had picked up the respective manager and player of the month awards for October, the aim for everyone is to maintain that when Caley Thistle visit Balmoral Stadium at the weekend.
Having become the first side to win three straight League One games this season with the victory at Montrose, the team backed that up with a fourth at Dumbarton last time out.
The heroics of Balint Demus played a massive part in that – he has now gone 377 minutes without conceding a goal – and the boys stepped it up in the second half at The Rock to secure another three points.
Paul Hartley says there is a real feelgood factor at the club right now, and that everyone should make the most of that:
“The players are enjoying it, I’m really enjoying working with them, and speaking to a few of the boys this week, they’re feeling fit and strong. That comes from how we work in training, and getting the results we have.
“We’ve got good experience, I can trust them, just let them get on with things, and they’re helping the younger players also.
“Now, we want to keep our feet on the ground and just keep it going.”
In each of the last couple of wins, the team has had tough moments in the first half of the games before really hitting top form after the interval, but Paul believes that can happen in what is a hugely competitive division:
“You just have to ride the storm at times, get through that, then try to impose yourselves on the game. We’re finishing matches strongly, which is the important thing.
“Earlier in the season we were playing well, but losing games, and now we’re finding a way to win, and we have the quality to do that right throughout the team. There’s been some excellent defending, and at the other end, we know we have the players who can hurt the opposition.”
“Caley Thistle have been going through a hard time of course, but they’re a good team, and they’ll come here and pass the ball. They will be dangerous, so we have to be aware of the threat they bring, address that, and do all the good things we have been doing.”
Having celebrated his half century of appearances at Dumbarton, Arron Darge picked up an ankle injury which will sideline him for a couple of weeks, and joins Liam Parker on the casualty list:
“We will miss Arron, he’s been excellent, but it’s a chance for someone else to come in and play their part, and the boys are all desperate to do just that.”
