Hartley Wants Positive Reaction At Annan

Back to news

The team faces the mammoth journey down to the borders this weekend for our second meeting of the campaign with Annan Athletic.

The previous encounter came on the opening day of the League One season when the visitors sprang a surprise at Balmoral Stadium, snatching a 3-1 victory, and our misery was compounded by the sending-off of Mitch Megginson as tempers flared following the final whistle.

The striker limped off during the midweek loss to Stenhousemuir and is a likely absentee for the game. Paul Hartley’s squad is stretched to the limit right now, Fraser Fyvie and Blair Yule are also on the injury list, and Arron Darge was fit enough only for a place on the bench on Tuesday:

“We looked a really young team at the end of the game, you could see the lack of experience, but the boys have to learn quickly in what is a tough league.

“It would be a big help to get at least a couple of the older heads back in, and it might have to be a late decision on the starting eleven.

“It’s a tough venue to go to, but we have to get back to winning ways. There’s an important run coming up starting with Saturday, then home games against two of our promotion rivals, so we need to rediscover our best form.”

The side enjoyed contrasting fortunes at Galabank last season, a Rumarn Burrell hat-trick sealing our win there twelve months ago, but we went down 4-2 in April, a result that proved a hammer blow to our playoff hopes.

Having lost our last three league matches, Paul knows we are going to have to be much better for this one than we were in midweek:

“The Stenhousemuir game was our worst performance of the season, the team as a whole totally underperformed.

“The players know that, so they have an opportunity on Saturday to go and put it right. This is an important period, the run up to Christmas, and you want to make sure you’re in a good position for the turn of the year.”
