Rare Scoreless Encounter Sees Points Shared

Back to news

COVE RANGERS 0–0 KELTY HEARTS

We recorded our first goalless draw in twenty months as the teams took a point apiece from a game which only occasionally sparked to life. The closest we came to breaking the deadlock was just before the break, Adam Emslie’s drive rebounding off the crossbar.

Long-term absentee Liam Parker and Blair Yule were still sidelined for this one, but the good news was the return of top-scorer Mitch Megginson, and captain Fraser Fyvie, who had missed the last four. Grady McGrath and Dylan Lobban dropped out with Arron Darge taking over from the latter at right-back.

Cove were the more dominant side in the early exchanges, Adam Emslie a constant threat, and one of his crosses came close to finding Megginson before being cleared. The nearest we came was from a short Cleall-Harding pass back, Adams racing from his line to avert the danger.

Kelty threatened for the first time in the thirteenth minute, Cunningham shooting well over from twenty yards, but we were soon back on the attack and Fyvie had a long range effort charged down.

Emslie and Ryan Harrington were combining well down the left, Ryan winning successive corners which came to nothing.

The team were playing some attractive football, and from the latest move which involved Glass, Harrington and Megginson, Reuben McAllister had a go from the edge of the box, Adams gathering his angled effort.

Kelty might have made the breakthrough soon after, Thomas slicing wide from ten yards, then we came agonisingly close just before the interval.

After more good link-up, Declan Glass let fly, Adams making a fine save to push away his shot, and when Emslie followed-up, his powerful volley crashed back off the underside of the bar.

The second half began in lively fashion, McAllister threatening at one end and MacIntyre seeing his effort beaten away by Nick Suman at the other, but thereafter, chances were to be at a premium.

Megginson had a couple of shots wide and Connor Scully stole in to hit the back post from a tight angle, while Kelty might have netted when Suman miskicked and Moore tried an audacious effort from all of forty yards, his attempt sailing just over.

The closest we came was in the eighty-first minute when Fraser Fyvie’s twenty-yard free-kick ballooned off the wall and looked to be dropping in under the crossbar only for Adams to claw it to safety.

In the end, neither side could find the required killer pass, and we had to settle for 0-0, our first such scoreline since the draw against Dundee at Dens Park in April 2023, ending a run of sixty-seven games.
