Stenhousemuir (A) | Match Preview

Back to news

We head for Stenhousemuir this weekend looking to get back to winning ways in the league and remain heavily involved in the promotion race.

Queen of the South’s midweek victory dropped us down to sixth, but with a game in hand over four of the sides above us, we are still very much in the mix in what continues to be a tight contest.

Ochilview has not been a happy hunting ground of late – we lost on both visits when Queen’s Park played there during our Championship campaign and were beaten earlier this season by Gary Naismith’s team – so Paul Hartley is determined to reverse that trend:

“We were okay first half down there, but never performed after the break, so this is an opportunity to go and put a better performance on. We’re at an important stage of the season, February is going to be a big month for us, and it is all about getting those wins on the board.”

Stenhousemuir are one of just two sides we have not taken a point from in 2024-25, Arbroath being the other, and the manager is well aware of the threat they pose:

“They showed that when they beat us here in December, they were far too strong for us that night. Gary Naismith has built an experienced squad, they don’t give much away at home, and they have been difficult opponents for us.

“We need to be up for the fight on Saturday, but it’s the same for every team every week in this league. You need to hit certain levels, and even if you might not always play well, you have to put the work in and hope you have the quality to win the game when the chance comes along.”

Having won through against Forfar last weekend, we now have a Fifth Round tie at Livingston to look forward to, and the gaffer hopes that will be a spur for the squad:

“I think so! Everybody will want to play in that one, that’s for sure, it’s a chance to make history, so I expect all the players to be fighting hard to get a place in the team that day.”

Liam Parker is edging closer to fitness after his long injury lay-off, as is Will Gillingham who has missed the last three, and Blair Yule should be fine for Saturday after recovering from illness.
