History Beckons In Livi Cup-Tie

Back to news

The intense League One promotion battle goes on the backburner this weekend as we head for Livingston in the fifth round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

It is the second successive year we have reached this stage – the furthest the club has ever got in the competition (we also did so in 2018) – so, if we can upset the odds, it would be an historic victory for the club.

2-0 wins over Caley Thistle and Forfar Athletic have seen us progress without conceding a goal, but Saturday will clearly be a step-up, with Livi currently on an impressive run and just two points off the top of the Championship table.

They will be in action in Wednesday night in the semi-final of the SPFL Trust Trophy, taking on Dunfermline Athletic for the right to face Queen’s Park in the final, a game which will be taken in by Cove manager Paul Hartley as part of his big match preparations:

“We’ve already had them watched, but it’s important for me to see them in the flesh, even though we know Livi well having played them in the League Cup earlier in the season. David has put together a strong team and they are up there challenging, just as I expected they would be.”

“Of course it’s going to be a massive challenge for us, but we are in a good place right now, and we will go there with a positive mindset.”

This will be our first visit to Almondvale, the three previous encounters all having taken place at Balmoral Stadium, the sides drawn together in the League Cup group stage in the last three years. Livingston came out on top in those matches, and will be favourites to do so again, given we are the only side outwith the top two divisions remaining in the tournament.

There will be further preview and feature material throughout the week as we build-up to the big day.
