New Deals For Mikey And Jack

Back to news

We are delighted to announce that two of the club’s most promising young talents have signed extended contracts and will remain with Cove Rangers until the summer of 2026.

Eighteen year-old goalkeeper Jack Robertson and midfielder Mikey Milnes, who is seventeen, initially joined us in the summer of 2023, and have been out on loan to gain valuable game time.

Mikey is currently with junior side Bridge of Don Thistle, while Jack spent the first half of the campaign at Huntly, and more recently has had an emergency loan spell with Forres Mechanics.

Manager Paul Hartley says it makes sense to give both players a bit more security:

“It’s important to give them that extra time, eighteen months to develop and push themselves towards the first team. They’ve both been out to get games, which is vital for them at this stage as they move forward.

“They’re also training with us, with the first team, and that helps their development. Jack works closely with Derek Soutar, and the other goalies, Nick and Bal, while Mikey is in and around the more experienced players every day, picking up what he can from them.”

Mikey had no doubts about signing the new deal:

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club, and it’s great to know that’s going to continue. Getting the games out on loan has been important too, and I definitely feel that working with the established boys has been a real benefit. It’s all about kicking-on now.”

And Jack also believes Balmoral Stadium is the right place to further develop his career:

“Definitely! The last year and a half has been brilliant for me, learning so much from Soapy (Derek Soutar) and the other keepers. We all push each other on in training, and I do feel I’ve improved.

“The loan spells have also helped, the more games I can play, the better, and I just want to keep working hard to achieve as much as I can.”

We wish both players all the best for the future and look forward to seeing them out on the pitch in the coming years.
