Our promotion battle continues this weekend with a trip to The Indodrill to take on Alloa Athletic.
Having had a disappointing run through December and January, Andy Graham’s team are unbeaten in four and have recorded successive wins over Kelty and Annan, a run which has pushed them back into the playoff positions.
Alloa were our bogey side last season, coming out on top in all four encounters, but it has been a different story this time round with Cove recording a couple of 2-0 victories.
It is a trend Paul Hartley wants to see continue:
“We couldn’t buy a result again them, and we didn’t always play badly, but we’ve changed that around this year, and we will head there determined to keep that going.
“Alloa are quite a young team, they’ve got a lot of strength in depth in their squad, and there’s good energy from the middle to the front. They have picked up of late, they’ve always been in the mix, and it will be another tough one, but we have got to go down there and be strong again.”
We have lost just one of our last ten League One matches and have gone five without defeat. That is the level of consistency the manager believes we are going to have to maintain:
“It was vital to grind out that win against Dumbarton. We had hoped February would be a good month for us, and it’s turned out that way. We probably weren’t at our best, but at this stage it’s all about winning.”
“We are short in numbers, but we’ve got real quality in the squad, and you saw that with Fraser Fyvie’s goal, Findlay Marshall’s bit of magic against Montrose, moments like that can make all the difference.
“I have to say the spirit and determination within the group has also been excellent, and you need that to carry you through at times.”
Our next six games – seven if you count Caley Thistle as contenders – are against our direct rivals for promotion, so the likelihood is it will be a nerve-wracking period:
“That’s the way you want it, you want to beat the teams around you because it damages them, and it improves your position. Eleven games to go, we’re going to need everybody to step up, to play their part over the next couple of months to keep us involved. I have no doubt the boys will do that.”
“As for Saturday, while we always want to play well, the result is the most important thing, so we’ll have to dig in, fight and work hard, and if we do that, hopefully we can get the win we all want.”
Declan Glass and Will Gillingham will again be absent, while Mitch Megginson and Fraser Fyvie will be given up until the last minute to prove their fitness.
