Our promotion hunt goes back on the road this week with Montrose at Links Park preceded by the trip to Fife on Tuesday night to take on Kelty Hearts.
We have won on all three previous visits to New Central Park, and if the team can keep that run going, it will be a massive step towards securing, at the very least, a berth in the play-offs.
It was a slow start at the weekend against Queen of the South, but the players dug in, and Paul Hartley was delighted with their response:
“We were off the pace first twenty minutes, but the reaction from that was terrific, we got a foothold and got our passing game going, and we created plenty chances and had some good moments in the second half.
“After the defeat at Alloa, it was a big three points, and now we move on to the next challenge.
“Kelty are a good team, they’ve changed their style a bit since Charlie Mulgrew came in, and changed their shape. Any time we’ve faced them it’s always been tight, especially away from home, so I expect another hard game.”
Blair Yule, who was named man of the match against Queens, got us back into the contest with a superb long range effort, something he also achieved at Kelty on our last trip south, and he sees this as a crucial encounter:
“The boys are playing a lot of attractive football this season, I’m really enjoying it with them, and we need to try to keep that going. There’s a nice mix of youth and experience and we have had a good run, something we will have to extend given how competitive the league is.”
“Kelty will be tough, so will Montrose on Saturday, but those are the matches you have to win if you’re going to be successful, and we know that all too well.”
Arbroath have opened up a bit of a gap right now, but both ourselves and Stenhousemuir, who visit Inverness on Tuesday night, have a game in hand, and the manager believes a victory will put a little more pressure on the table-toppers with just eight matches remaining:
“It is all about winning at this stage. You want to play well, of course you do, but getting those three points is the most important thing. Nothing else matters.”
“We have done well to remain in contention this season, given the small squad we have and the injuries we have suffered, and the players have done a brilliant job, but we need to keep it going.
“That’s us into the final quarter now and we just have to stay in the mix, ready for the run-in.”
Will Gillingham will still be missing, and a late decision will be taken on Nick Suman who was ill at the weekend, and Arron Darge, who has now picked up a virus.
