Saturday’s win at Dumbarton saw us hit the fifty points mark for the third time since we gained promotion in 2019. While we will not get close to our best totals, 68 in 2019-20 and a remarkable 79 points in 21-22, we have already surpassed last season’s tally of 49 with three games still to play.
We have won more games than last time out, fifteen against fourteen, and are on course to beat our goals scored total of 58, having already netted 55. There has also been a huge improvement defensively with just 39 conceded against 63 in 2023-24.
As for individual stats, Connor Scully finally saw his run of ninety-three successive starts come to an end when he was named on the bench. Connor had been in the starting eleven for every competitive match since missing the 2-0 defeat at Dundee on March 4th 2023.
Ryan Harrington and Mikey Doyle are now the only players to have started all thirty-three league matches, and all forty-one including cup competitions.
Only three players, Stuart McKenzie (2019-20 and 20-21), Blair Yule (20-21) and Connor Scully (23-24) have previously compiled ever-present league seasons, while only Stuart (twice) and Connor have played in every competitive match throughout a campaign.
Mikey Doyle now has the longest current run of starts – 57 – and has missed just one of the seventy-one games we have played since he made his debut as a trialist against Queen of the South on October 28th 2023.
When he opened his account in senior football against Dumbarton, Dylan Lobban became the forty-sixth player to score a league goal for Cove Rangers in the SPFL and the forty-ninth to net for the club in all competitions since we were promoted in 2019.
He is the ninth player to have notched their first Cove goal this season, following Adam Emslie, Findlay Marshall, Liam Parker, Myles Gaffney, Grady McGrath, Arron Darge, Ryan Harrington and Quinn Coulson.
Fraser Fyvie scored his twenty-ninth Cove Rangers goal at Dumbarton, moving ahead of Jamie Masson in the rankings. Only Rory McAllister (31) and Mitch Megginson (100) have scored more during our time in the SPFL.
