Monday Morning Stats Round-Up

Back to news

There were, as ever, plenty statistics thrown up in the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Kelty Hearts.

Most notably, the point was enough to secure our place in the playoffs, just the second time Cove Rangers have featured in the end of season shoot out. Our only previous involvement was in 2020-21 when we lost in heartbreaking fashion in extra-time to Airdrieonians in the semi-final.

The meeting with Kelty was the fourth league encounter between the sides at Balmoral Stadium, all four having ended all-square. Three of those finished 2-2, and in each of those one of the teams has had to recover from 2-0 down. Strangely, we have won on all four visits to New Central Park.

Connor Scully was out injured on Saturday, posted missing from the squad for the first time since 2-0 loss to Dundee on March 4th, 2023. That ended a run of ninety-five matches, ninety-three of which had been successive starts, followed by substitute appearances in each of the two previous matches against Dumbarton and Alloa.

Mikey Doyle and Ryan Harrington maintained their ever-present records for the season against Kelty, each having now played thirty-five league games and forty-three in all competitions.

Mikey has now made fifty-nine straight starts, getting closer to Stuart McKenzie who started sixty-seven successive games between 2019 and 2021, and sits second behind Connor in that ranking.

Mitch Megginson scored his thirteenth League One goal of the season and remains joint-top scorer in the division alongside Kelty’s Ross Cunningham. Mitch has been divisional top scorer in three of his previous SPFL campaigns with us, netting twenty-seven in 2019-20, fifteen in 2020-21 and twenty-four in 2021-22.

Adam Emslie claimed his tenth league goal for the club, becoming just the fifth player to achieve that feat in a single season. Mitch Megginson has done so in five of his six campaigns, the others being Jamie Masson, with fifteen in 2019-20, Rory McAllister, sixteen in 2021-22 and Rumarn Burrell twenty-one in 2023-24.
