Connor Scully is to leave Cove Rangers this summer, ending a success-laden spell which has seen him spend half his life with the club.
The midfielder was offered a new Cove contract but decided at this stage he needed a fresh start.
Brought to Cove Rangers as a sixteen year old by former kit-man Adrian Thomson, Connor was at the heart of everything achieved as the side went on to dominate in the Highland League before gaining promotion to the SPFL in 2019.
Chairman Keith Moorhouse admits it is an emotional moment seeing him go:
“He has been a huge part of the success enjoyed by the club over the years. I have known Connor since he was a young boy, and it has been a pleasure to see him develop into the player and person he has become.
“I could not be any prouder of him and I wish him all the very best for the future.”
Connor admits it was not an easy decision, but says he felt the time was right:
“It is partly down to increasing work pressures and the demands of having a young family. I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time, and I’m comfortable with this call.
“It was difficult, I’ve been with the club since I was a teenager and leaving was never going to be easy.
“I would like to thank the fans, who have always been great with me, all my team-mates from over the years, the backroom staff I have worked with, the directors, and particularly the chairman. They have been like an extended family for me, and I have made so many good friends.”
“I’m a local lad who lived the dream, who had an incredible journey, and I am proud of everything we achieved. There are so many memories that will live with me forever.
“I would like to wish the club all the best for the future, I will always be a Cove Rangers fan, and I hope to get back to Balmoral to see a few games next season.”
Awarded a richly-deserved testimonial in 2023, the midfielder was then in the midst of a highly successful season in the Championship, during which he picked up the goal of the month award for a spectacular overhead kick in the memorable win over Dundee.
At the end of that campaign, he scooped all the honours in the club awards.
An ever-present in 2023-24, Connor went on to make a remarkable ninety-three starts in a row from March 2023 until April this year and has made the most appearances for the club since we joined the SPFL, having missed just twelve of the 248 games played during that time.
Overall, the midfielder racked-up a total of 567 matches for Cove.
Everyone at the club would like to thank Connor Scully for his immense contribution over the years, and to wish him every success in his future career.
He leaves as a genuine Cove Rangers legend, and will always be a very welcome visitor to the stadium.
