AIRDRIE REACTION | MASSON & THE MANAGER

Back to news

MIDFIELDER Jamie Masson says he’s disappointed we only took a point from our League One clash away to Airdrieonians.

Jamie returned from serving a two game ban to score in what was a keenly contested 1-1 draw down in Lanarkshire.

Some teams might look on any point on the road as one gained, but Jamie insisted that isn’t the case at Cove.

“It just shows the mentality we have at the club,” said Jamie.

“We want to win every game, no matter who we are up against.

“Some teams might be happy with a point at Airdrie but not us, even though it could prove to be a vital one when we are looking back at the end of the season.

“There’s nothing we can do about it now though.

“It’s a case of getting back in to training on Tuesday and Thursday to make sure we are ready to go again in the next match, which we know is going to be another hard one.”

Jamie was pleased with his goal, a curling effort after he had been set up by some excellent combination play between Leighton McIntosh and Mitch Megginson.

“It was just good to be back in the team and to make a positive contribution,” he said.

“The time off seemed like a very long two weeks because I hate not being involved.

“That sort of goal has become a bit of a trademark, I’ve scored quite a few during my time with Cove.

“Hopefully there will be many more to come from me this season.”

Manager Paul Hartley praised the players for their performances.

He said: “We were really good in the first half, some of our play was terrific.

“We got the goal and also had another good chance with Leighton (McIntosh).

“He probably could have gone for that one with his head.

“We said at half-time that we could expect a reaction from Airdrie, which is what happened.

“We still had other chances though, it was a good game of football.

“During our first six games we’ve had to face Airdrie, Falkirk and Partick Thistle, three full-time clubs, and we have matched every one of them.

“That tells me a lot about our players.

“We have a good group who are eager to do well, like to play good football and give everything.

“They are genuinely disappointed we couldn’t see the game out at 1-0 but you have to give the opposition credit sometimes.

“You can’t always dominate a game but we have a great bunch of lads, with a great attitude.”
