Airdrie Reaction: Masson & Hartley

Back to news

MANAGER Paul Hartley and two goal hero Jamie Masson spoke to the media after our 2-0 League One victory over Airdrie at Balmoral Stadium.

Paul said: “The win was deserved, I thought we were really good.

“It’s difficult because of the amount of games we are having to play in a short period after such a long lay-off.

“It means we are having to change things about because we have so many hard games but the players are coping well with that.

“I was pleased for Jamie Masson that he scored two great goals, that’s the reaction you look for when a player is coming in off the bench.

“I was really happy with the overall performance and it was nice to get the three points.

“It was a good night’s work and we can now start preparing to go to Ibrox on Sunday.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game and we also have to play Clyde in the league 48 hours later, so we will try and use the squad as best as we can again.

“We want to go there and try and put on a decent performance, make it as hard as we can for Rangers and see where that can take us.

“It’s the romance of the cup, some of the lads have never played there (Ibrox) before but we have got to get our team right for Sunday and for the Tuesday.”

Jamie, who scored twice in the second half, said: “I’m delighted to have played an important part in getting what could end up being a crucial win.

“The gaffer has been telling us he will doing what he can to keep everyone fresh and said when I was about to go on that all he was asking was that I try to make an impact.

“I’m glad I did, I think scored with my first two touches, which isn’t too bad!

“They were decent goals too, so I’m happy.

“It doesn’t really matter who scores though, it’s the three points that count and I’m pleased we managed to earn those.

“We can now look forward to Sunday, everybody is buzzing at the prospect of playing at Ibrox, especially those, like myself, who have never played there before.

“It’s no secret that I and a lot my family are Rangers fans, so it will mean a lot to me.

“We will all do our best to enjoy the occasion and attempt to do as well as we can but we also know we are going to have to be ready to go again when we play Clyde in the league on the Tuesday.

“It’s great to have the cup tie to look forward to but the league is the priority as far as we are concerned.”
