Derek Soutar Joins Cove

Back to news

We are delighted to confirm Derek Soutar has been appointed as our new goalkeeping coach.

Former Aberdeen, Dundee, Ross County and Forfar Athletic keeper Derek will be in the dugout for the first time when we face Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium today in the Premier Sports Cup.

The 40-year-old succeeds Alan Combe, who joined Premiership side Dundee during the close season.

Manager Paul Hartley said: “We are delighted Derek has agreed to join us.

“He has good experience in coaching and also played at the top level and I’m certain he will prove to be great addition to our coaching team.”

Derek was previously coaching in the Dundee FC Academy, runs his own coaching school and is the former goalkeeping coach for the Northern Ireland Under-19 side.

He began his own playing career at Dens Park and enjoyed spells on loan to Brechin City and Alloa Athletic before joining the Dons in 2006.

Derek dislodged Jamie Langfield as the first choice keeper at Pittodrie for a spell before moving on to Ross County in 2008.

Capped 11 times at Under-21 level for Scotland, Derek also played for Highland League side Formartine United before hanging up his gloves to concentrate on coaching.

Everyone at Cove Rangers would like to welcome Derek to the club and wish him well during his time at Balmoral Stadium.
