Interview: Blair Yule

Back to news

WE caught up with Blair Yule who gave us his thoughts ahead of this weekend’s Championship Play-Off, Semi-Final First Leg, against Airdrieonians.

The Diamonds beat Falkirk 2-0 last night to finish second in League One.

It means the first leg of our semi-final clash will take place at Balmoral Stadium on Saturday, 3pm, with the return in Airdrie next Tuesday.

Blair said: “These next two games are the biggest in the club’s history and we are determined to do well in them.

“We have done well against all the teams in our division at some stage, so we have good reason to feel confident.

“Our performance at home to Airdrie last week wasn’t what we wanted, but we know we are capable of far better – and accept there will need to be a huge improvement if we are to do well in the play-offs.

“The good thing is we are also a team that has tended to come back from any disappointments in a positive manner.

“If we play to our strengths on the day then we will have an excellent chance of getting the result we all want.”

Blair played in the club’s first ever attempt at promotion, in 2016, when we lost on aggregate to Edinburgh City in the semi-finals of the League Two Play-Off.

“It’s amazing to see how far the club has come since then,” said Blair, who was also involved when we finally clinched promotion to the SPFL via the Play-Offs in 2019.

“But we aren’t sitting thinking we are happy with what we have.

“We are always focussed on improving, can we take the club up another level?

“We believe we are good enough – but the task now is to go out and prove it on the park.

“There is a very strong mentality, right through our squad.

“We relish the big games and have always played well in them, hopefully that will continue to be the case.”

In the other League One fixture last night, Montrose beat Partick Thistle 3-2 to pip Falkirk to fourth spot and earn a Play-Off Semi-Final against Championship side Morton, with the first leg at Links Park on Saturday.
