Airdrie Preview | Rory McAllister

Back to news

Rory McAllister spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One visit to Airdrieonians.

Rory said: “It’s another exciting one, but every game is in that category in this league.

“We are going into it on the back of a good run and the challenge is to see if we can extend that.

“It’s very tight at the top, so if one of the teams could maybe win four or five games on the bounce it could put them in a very strong position.

“That’s something we are certainly capable of doing, but we accept our hopes of doing that will be tested to the full by Airdrie.

“The good thing is, I feel we are finally starting to get going after what was a bit of a stop-start first part of the season.

“We played really well, as a team, last weekend against Peterhead.

“We should have been at least 4-0 up at half-time and if we had scored eight by the end I don’t think anyone at Peterhead could have complained.

“We didn’t, but 3-0 was still a very good result against opponents who usually give us a very tough fight.

“If we can keep that up every week we will remain at the top end of the league.

“It’s going to be hard work though.

“Games against Airdrie are always challenging, physically as well as tactically.

“We only need to think back to what happened down there in the play-offs last season for a reminder of that.

“But both sides know that the winners will find themselves on top of the league, which adds a bit of spice and is a huge incentive,”

Rory remains our top scorer for the season, with 12 goals, despite failing to find the net against Peterhead.

But he is delighted that skipper Mitch Megginson is now hot on heels after scoring twice against the Blue Toon, to bring his tally so far to 10.

Rory said: “It’s good for any team to have more than one player capable of scoring a fair amount of goals.

“It takes a bit of the weight off your shoulders if you are one of those strikers.

“There will be times when one or the other isn’t finding the net, so there is more chance of the one who is in good form doing what is needed to help us win games.

“Hopefully, there will also be spells when the both of us are scoring regularly- that’s when the teams we face could be in big trouble.”
