Evan Towler Joins on Loan

Back to news

We are delighted to confirm the loan signing of Aberdeen defender Evan Towler.

The highly rated 17-year-old, who can play at left-back and centre-back, will be with us for the whole of the coming season.

Manager Jim McIntyre said: “We are delighted to get Evan on board and want to thank Aberdeen for giving us the opportunity to work with him.

“It was clear Harry Milne’s departure in the summer meant we had an important position in the squad to fill.

“Connor Scully has done a great job there so far during the pre-season, but we know that isn’t his favoured position.

“It was important to get someone who is a natural left-wing back and Evan fits the bill.

“I spoke to several people at Aberdeen, past and present, and the feedback on Evan was excellent.

“He had a very good loan spell at Elgin City last season and joining Cove Rangers offers him the opportunity to take another step forward in his career.

“He’s a hungry and ambitious young lad who made it clear he was delighted to come and fight for the right to play.

“It’s also part of building what we hope can be a strong relationship with Aberdeen when it comes to helping develop their best youngsters.

“Cove Rangers showed there are mutual benefits to be had by helping bring on the likes of Ross Graham and Declan Glass, who have since become first team regulars at Dundee United.

“That was because they gained vital game experience at a high level with Cove Rangers, which is what we will be offering Evan during his time with us.”

Evan said: “I’m buzzing to be here.

“I saw Cove Rangers playing a few times last season, so know Harry Milne did an excellent job.

“I’m obviously a left-sided player too, who loves to get forward to create chances as well as defend when required.

“I’ve also had the benefit of training alongside the likes of Andrew Considine, who taught me a lot about what it takes to do well in my my preferred position.

“It’s up got me to now put what I’ve learned to good use in what is going to be a big season for me as well as for Cove Rangers.”

Evan actually comes from Cove, although his family have since relocated to Portlethen.

He played for Cove Boys Club before joining the AFC Academy at the age of eight.

Evan agreed a full-time contract with the Dons in December 2020, which was later extended until the summer of 2024, and was chosen to captain of Aberdeen’s Under-18 side last season.

Evan said: “Having played my first football as a young boy up in Cove I was delighted when I heard there was a chance to come to the club.

“I was with the local boys club for about six months before joining Aberdeen and appreciated the start I had with them.

“I’ve also followed Cove’s journey up from the Highland League to the Championship.

“It’s a big challenge for me to see if I can now get a regular game for the club, but it’s one I’m looking forward to.”

He spent the latter part of last season on loan to League Two Elgin City and was praised for the quality of his 17 performances for them.

Evan said: “I’m hoping that six months playing in men’s football will serve me well in the Championship.

“I feel I’m ready for the jump up now.”

Everyone at Cove Rangers would like to welcome Evan to the club and wish him success during his time at Balmoral Stadium.
