Cieran signs on at Balmoral stadium

The club is delighted to announce the signing of former Falkirk and Sunderland wide-man, Cieran Dunne.

A product of the successful Falkirk youth academy, Cieran came to the fore when ex-Cove Rangers boss Paul Hartley gave him his debut as a seventeen year-old in October 2017. He played half a dozen matches that season, and two more in the following campaign, before being sold to Sunderland.

Cieran made his debut for the Black Cats in an EFL Cup tie at Fleetwood in November 2020, and also featured against Oldham in the same competition in December of the following year.

Initially a left winger, Cieran has also been deployed in defence and at left wingback, but Jim McIntyre believes he might be more effective further up the pitch:

“I’ve done my homework on Cieran and spoken to people who have worked with him, guys whose opinions I value. The feedback could not have been more positive.

“He’s really quick, he’s athletic and direct, and he has a good attitude. We brought him along to training to have a look at him, and it wasn’t a difficult decision. I’ve got no doubts he’s going to fit in well here.

“Cieran is one I’ve had my eye on for a few weeks, and he had other offers, but he chose Cove, and that tells you everything you need to know about his desire to be here.”

Still just twenty-two, Cieran sees the move to Balmoral Stadium as an opportunity to elevate his career up to the next level, and had no doubts about joining Cove’s Championship journey:

“I feel as if there’s something really building here. They’ve had a lot of success and momentum is everything in football; I’m looking forward to playing my part in trying to push some of the full time teams all the way.

“I had a great time at Sunderland, I don’t regret making that move, and it one hundred percent made me a better player and a better person. I learned a lot about myself, moving away, living on my own.

“Now it’s time for me to really get my career going, to get a good run of games. I’m a hard worker, I’ll give everything for the team, and I can’t wait to get started up in Inverness.”

With the club having secured international clearance late last night, Cieran, who will wear the number twenty-two shirt, goes straight into Jim McIntyre’s squad for the trip to Caledonian Stadium.
