Young Talent Signed Up

Back to news

Following the news of the move towards full-time football, we are delighted to this afternoon announce the signing of three young players who it is believed will have big futures in the game.

While the focus has to be on the first team, the board and management are also well aware of the need to develop our own stars, drawing from the local pool of talent, and with that in mind, we feel this move is a first step towards Cove Rangers having its own youth academy.

Nineteen year old striker Myles Gaffney, seventeen year old left back Milosz Ochmanski and goalkeeper Jack Robertson, who is just sixteen, have all signed professional contracts with the club.

The trio will train full-time with the rest of the squad and manager Paul Hartley expects to see them all develop and improve as a result:

“These are talented kids, setting out on their careers, and I think we can give them the ideal platform. They will get to work with the more established pros, they will get fitter and stronger, and I have no doubt they will grow and improve.

“Milosz and Myles have both seen some action in the pre-season friendlies, which will have helped them, and the opportunity is there for them all to kick-on further.

“Bringing through our own young players has to be a big part of the changes that are being implemented here at Balmoral Stadium, and I’m really looking forward to working with the guys.”

Chairman Keith Moorhouse says this was always part of the thinking in the move away from the part-time model, and believes there are all round benefits:

“Clearly, it has to be good for the youngsters, but it is also a major step forwards for the club. We have to develop our own players, and that is the plan for the future. We have always had a strong local identity with a core of homegrown players, and I want that to continue.

“We will be identifying more youngsters as we move ahead and look to build on this. Some might have long careers with Cove, others may well move on, but the target has to be to keep producing talented kids. This is a step towards achieving that.”
