Influential midfielder Fraser Fyvie has signed a new two-year deal which will see him remain at Balmoral Stadium until at least the summer of 2026.
Fraser initially joined Cove Rangers in 2019, just in time for our debut season in the SPFL, and has since made 116 appearances for the club, scoring twenty-two goals.
A cup winner both sides of the border, the thirty year-old has played a huge part in the successes of recent seasons, and he says he had no doubts about signing on for two more years:
“I’m delighted. It’s been a tough twelve months with the injuries, but since going part-time I’ve really enjoyed being here at Cove and the club have been really good with me. It’s great to have been offered a two-year deal, and now I just have to focus on getting fit again.
“I feel as if when I’ve been available, I’ve done my bit on the pitch, and I want to get back out there as quickly as possible. Obviously, I’ve had plenty experience of this in the past, but the good thing is it’s never been a case of my body breaking down, it’s been impact injuries I have suffered, I’ve just been unlucky I guess, and my mentality is always good; I have never doubted my ability to get fit again. I still have my love for the game.”
There were big changes at Balmoral Stadium last summer, and Fraser believes he can play his part in making sure they pay dividends:
“It has been a huge transition with a lot of new boys coming in, and the move to the hybrid model, but the older part-time players still have a role to play, that’s been made clear to us, and I am excited by the prospect of what lies ahead.
“I know I still have a lot to offer, I have knowledge of playing at all levels in the game, and it is important for me to help the younger, less experienced players. As you become older, I see that as one of your responsibilities, and it is something I enjoy doing.
“I firmly believe that exciting times lie ahead for the club, that is why I was so pleased to sign the new deal, and I look forward to doing everything I can to help make that happen.”
Manager Paul Hartley is equally delighted to have tied-up the services of the midfielder:
“He has been a key player ever since I came to the club, obviously I brought him here in the first place, so I know what he has to offer. He is influential, definitely one of best midfielders in the division, so hopefully we can get him back soon. We have absolutely missed his quality.
“It is all about keeping Fraser fit, and if we can do that, he will have a big part to play over the next couple of years. He is a good professional, and given his injuries, he knows how to battle back, knows that he needs to do. I’m really pleased we’re keeping him at the club.
“It rounds off a good week for us with Mikey Doyle extending his contract and Matty Shiels and Ola Lawal coming in. We have let a few of the boys go out on loan, it’s important they get games, but we didn’t want to make too many changes, and I feel we have brought in quality.”
Fraser has been missing for the past nine matches after suffering a knee injury in the win over Montrose in mid-November, but he is nearing full fitness, and expects to be back available again within the next few weeks.
