Paul Hartley has strengthened his attacking options with the capture of twenty-one year old David Eguaibor.
The striker joins Cove Rangers having come through the ranks at League of Ireland side Cobh Ramblers and caught the eye of the manager when on trial at Balmoral earlier in the year.
Paul Hartley believes he can make an impact in Scottish football:
“We had him in for a look at the start of the year and I liked what I saw. We got him through the same agent as Rumarn Burrell, so if he can turn out half the player Rumarn was, that’ll do for me.
“David’s a target man, he’s strong and he has a presence, and he knows where the goal is. He’s a bit different to the strikers we’ve had of late, something we’ve missed maybe since Rory McAllister left. Mitch has been the focal point for a long time, but he needs a bit of help; David will provide that, and we’ve also still got Grady McGrath.”
The Irishman is pleased to have sorted out his future and cannot wait to get going:
“I’m delighted, over the moon, and look forward to starting off with my new club. I was here in January and it was a good experience, the boys were very welcoming, and the gaffer’s been great with me. He sets the standards, and you can see that from the minute you walk into the dressing room.
“I was at Cobh Ramblers from the age of fourteen all the way up to first team level and I see this as a way to develop my career further.
“I want to come here, score a lot of goals, and help the team win the title. You need to have those ambitions, especially as a striker.”
So, what kind of player can the Cove fans expect to see when David takes to the pitch?
“I’m fast, direct, and like to think I’m deadly in front of goal; you have to be confident, you have to back yourself. I’m looking forward to playing with Mitch Megginson, I saw earlier in the year what a good player he is, and I’m sure I can learn a lot from him.
“I have no doubts about making the move from Ireland, I feel a hundred percent ready, and I can’t wait to get started.”
David will wear the number twenty shirt; we wish him every success in his Cove Rangers career.
