We are delighted to announce the signing of Liam Parker on a permanent two-year deal.
The big central defender joined us on loan from St Johnstone last summer and made an instant impact at the heart of the back line, but he suffered a broken foot at Montrose after just eight games, and was sidelined for almost four months.
Liam returned in the spring-time to see the season out, eventually making twenty-three appearances.
Having come to the end of his St Johnstone contract at the end of 2024-25, the twenty-one year old was a free agent, and Paul Hartley moved quickly to tie him up:
“I was keen to bring him in when I knew he was available. Six foot four, left-sided centre back, good on the ball; he has all the attributes, and he did really well for us when he first came in last year.
“He never really got over the injury, it’s not easy coming back after all that time out, and I felt he had maybe lost a bit of confidence, but I’ve seen in pre-season that he’s a different animal, back to his best, and if we can unleash his potential, I think we’ve got a really good player on our hands.
“It helps that he knows the club, knows the players, and he’s a likeable boy. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Liam says he thoroughly enjoyed his time with Cove last season and was keen to make a quick return:
“Definitely! It was good to get the deal done and I’m buzzing to be back. It helps that I know the club, and most of the players, and that was one of the main factors for me.
“It was a long time out last season, and I struggled a bit coming back, but it’s felt good in training, I’d done some work on my own, and now I’m ready to go.
“It was obviously upsetting leaving St Johnstone after three or four years, but I feel as if I’m ready to kick on; I really enjoyed it here, and this is a good move for me. I know the league, and I’m sure it’ll be tough again, but we did well last year, who’s to say we can’t do that again?
“I’m really excited for the future and to getting back out on the pitch.”
